ZANAVYKU LIETUVIU IR ŠVEDU DRAUGIJA
The meeting of initiative group for establishing of Zanavykai-Swedish
Society took place in November of 1999. The Society was registred
January 25th, 2000. It is located in the premises of Sakiai District
Municipality at 4 Bažnyèios street, Šakiai. The
Society has 30 active members who take part in the activities
of the Society. The goals of the Society are encouraging and broadening
of cooperation between people of Sakiai and Sweden and promotion
of interest in Swedish life and culture. The members of the Society
are studying Swedish traditions and customs. It is a tradition
of the Society to celebrate traditional Swedish festivals- Liucija’s
Day, Walpurgis Night and others.
The studying group is very active. The members of the group are
interested in possibilities to develop tourism in the district.
They prepare the routes for hikes in the most beautiful places
of Zanavykai region, they try to study the experience of development
of tourism in Sweden.
The Society initiated the start of cooperation between Sakiai
and Eksjo Municipalities. Delegation of agriculture workers and
businessmen from Sweden visited Sakiai. The Swedish friends participate
in the plenaries of artists in Sintautai, in the international
folk festival "Sesupe mills" and other traditional activities
of the region, they take part in joint projects in the field of
culture and education. The people of Sakiai participate in the
activities of the national Swedish-Lithuanian Society and Society
Sweden-Lithuania.
